Mbuyisi Manombe (Chef Du)’s culinary career began early on, inspired by his Mother’s love and respect for good food quality and different cuisines. After college training by a Japanese chef Terada at the School of Tourism and Hospitality at age 24, Chef Du sought opportunities to further develop his own creativity.
Chef Du’s culinary repertoire flourished during an internship at Kingdom hotel in Victoria Falls under chef Mutapati where he developed and refined his culinary techniques. He then extended his skill to Nkombani lodge as a Chef for a year, he went on to take up a Group Chef position at the Mc Inn chain of restaurants where he discovered his talent of being a development Chef. After work at Mc Inn for 3 years, he moved to the hotel industry working at the Holiday Inn Bulawayo as a Chef de Partie for 3 more years with the bid to work towards getting trade testing. He then advanced academically and attained a class one certificate to qualify him to be a professional Chef.
As a family man, he moved to Victoria Falls where he was part of very successful team that started the Zambezi House restaurant. In 2018 he became a Head Chef at the Shearwater Village (a new baby to one of the biggest tourism companies in Victoria Falls and Zimbabwe….Shearwater Adventures) where he worked alongside the judge of the Zimbabwean battle of the Chefs Chef Steve Hyde where he elevated the cuisine to its current state, continuing to update the menu seasonally and reflecting his most recent inventions. Shearwater Village’s vast menu of international comfort food ranged from the famous Pork Ribs to the traditional Oxtail.
Today, Chef Du is an Executive Chef at Diggers Inn one of the most successful establishments in Francistown Botswana. Chef Du can be found spearheading new projects and revamping existing concepts in his role as an Executive Chef.
Outside of the restaurant, Chef Du takes time sampling different cuisines in different restaurants and research on trends in the food industry. His love for food has made him become a professional, peaceful and loving Chef.
